# Edit or update an existing checkout profile

> Update a Kova profile through the same four-step form used during creation. Learn how Kova preserves encrypted secrets and normalizes state names.

Editing a checkout profile in Kova lets you change the account email, shipping address, billing override, payment card, IMAP assignment, or retailer password without rebuilding the profile from scratch. You edit using the same four-step form you used during creation.

## How blank fields affect stored secrets

Kova preserves encrypted values unless you intentionally replace them.

* **Retailer password**: if you leave the retailer password field blank, Kova keeps the stored password unchanged.
* **Payment card**: if you leave the card number field blank, Kova keeps the stored card unchanged.

If you enter a new password or card number, Kova replaces the old encrypted value with the new one.

  Re-entering a card number replaces the existing encrypted card. You do not need to delete the profile to update payment information.

## State name normalization

When the edit form opens for a profile, Kova normalizes legacy state names to standard two-letter postal abbreviations. For example, "California" becomes "CA" automatically. This keeps shipping and billing addresses consistent across imports and manual edits.
